COURT TRIAL OF AL-SANADRA CASE
Two court sessions were held on 11th and 18th April 2018 at Khartoum North
court before Justice/ Abdeen Hamid Dhahi and were only attended by both
lawyers’ panels. The two sessions were intended to be procedural for handing
over the case file but, it turned out that the same judge will continue
presiding over the trial. The next court session is scheduled for 25th April 2018.
Summary of the court sessions On 11th April 2018, the session started at 11:00
AM (Sudan local time) at Khartoum North court before Justice/ Abdeen Hamid
Dhahi. It was attended by the representatives of both lawyers’ panels. The
session was scheduled for handing over the case file to the Judge/Justice that
would carry on after Judge Abdeen who was promoted to the court of Appeal. But,
justice Abdeen informed the panel of lawyers that, no Judge/Justice was
appointed to replace him yet. He announced that he will give an update on the
matter during the session of 18th April 2018. On 18th April 2018, the session
started at 11:00 AM (Sudan local time) at Khartoum North court before justice/
Abdeen Hamid Dhahi. Present were the representatives of the two lawyers’
panels. The judge informed the lawyers that, he was assigned to handle this
trial up to its conclusion before reporting to his new position at the Court of
Appeal. Then, the judge announced that court sessions will resume on 25th April
2018 at 11:00 AM (Sudan local time).
Recommendations/ Appeals HUDO urges all the concerned, especially:
· The Sudan court to
conduct the trial fairly
· The activists, defenders
and supporters to keep on attending court sessions
· The diplomatic missions
and embassies to observe the court sessions
· The Sudan and
international media to give full coverage for the court
