                                                          KILLING OF A FARMER FOLLOWED BY OUTCRY IN KADOGLI, SUDAN

On 24th September 2020, Mr. Yahya Daoud Kafi was found dead at his farm in Saraf Eldai of Kadogli. The murder case was reported at Kadogli police office against anonymous. In response to Mr. Yahya’s death, residents caused commotion the following day (25th September 2020) and blocked the main road up to 26th September 2020. On 24 th September 2020, Mr. Yahya Daoud Kafi was found dead at his farm in Saraf Edai by his relatives. The matter was reported to police and the police took the dead body to Kadogli hospital for postmortem. The postmortem report indicated that his death was a result of seven bullet wounds (he was shot on his head and chest). Thereafter, the police handed over the dead body to the relatives and it was buried. The police filed the murder case against anonymous. On 25th September 2020, the residents of the northern part of town where the victim was living protested and closed/ obstructed the road in Kadogli. They demanded that the perpetrators should be apprehended and face the law. This protest inconvenienced travelers who were moving to and from Kadogli. This road is the main highway that connects Kadogli town with the rest of Sudan. The protest ended the following day (26th September 2020) after the community leader (Mr. Kafi Tayara) addressed the protestors. Mr. Yahya Daoud Kafi (the deceased) was a 52 years old farmer. Saraf-Eldai is a suburb in the northern part of Kadogli town (the capital) of Nuba Mountains/ South Kordufan state. Time after time, murder incidents have been reported with little response from the authorities. Mr. Kafi Tayara is a community leader heading a government militia in Nuba Mountains. HUDO is very concerned about the security situation and the safety of civilians in conflict areas and calls upon;
· Sudan government at state and central level to immediately investigate this murder case and to apprehend the culprits.
· Sudan government to address the state of insecurity in South Kordufan/ Nuba Mountains.
· Sudan government to ensure that the safety of civilians in conflict areas is guaranteed
· Sudan government to disarm people with unlicensed firearms.
