                                                        FARMER SHOT AND INJURED BY HERDSMEN IN ABU-KERSHOLA, SUDAN

On 6th November 2020, Mr. Mohammed Khamis Edriss was injured by a gunshot from a herdsman (nomad) at his farm/garden where he was together with his father and uncle. The case was reported at Abu-Kershola police but the police did not take any action. On 6th November 2020 morning hours, Mr. Mohammed together with his Father Mr. Khamis and Uncle Mr. Yousif Suliman found cattle grazing in their garden (farm) in Al-Jebailat village. The cattle were grazing and destroying the crops under the watch of the owners (two herdsmen). They immediately started to push the cattle out of their garden/farm but one of the herders held a gun, shot at them and injured Mr. Mohammed in the right leg. The two herders’ ran away towards Abu-Elhassan village. Mr. Mohammed was taken by his father and uncle to Abu-Kershola health centre and later (same day) to El Rahad hospital for further medical treatment. The case was filed by his father at Abu-Kershola police but no further investigation was carried out by police. The police could not even come to incident scene. Mr. Mohammed Khamis Edriss is 23 years old, Mr. Khamis Edriss is 43 years old and father of Mohammed. Mr. Yousif Suliman is 51 years old and a cousin of Khamis. All of them are farmers (cultivators) from Tagoy/ Tagali tribe and residents of Al-Jebailat village. Al-Jebailat village is located in Abu-Kershola locality of Nuba Mountains/ South Kordufan State, it is about 10 Km south of Abu[1]Kershola town and mostly inhabited by Tagali tribe. Abu-Elhassan village is about 5 km from Al[1]Jebailat village and mostly inhabited by the Arab nomads. Al Rahad is the nearest town to Abu[1]Kershola in North Kordufan State. HUDO is very concerned about the security situation and the safety of civilians in conflict areas and calls upon;
· Sudan government at state and central level to immediately investigate the police misconduct.
· Sudan government to address the state of insecurity in South Kordufan/ Nuba Mountains.
· Sudan government to ensure that the safety of civilians in conflict areas is guaranteed
· Sudan government to disarm people with unlicensed firearms.
