THE TRIAL OF THE ACCUSED FUGITIVE IN AL-SANADRA CASE

On 15th September 2020, the last fugitive was arrested by military police and taken to Kober prison where his coconspirators who were sentenced are held. On 15th September 2020, the military prison officials informed the accusing lawyers that, the eleventh (11th) accused person (Mr. Bardab Mohammed Osman Abakar) of Al-Sanadra case has been arrested. He had earlier escaped from the military prison on April 2018 and now he was finally arrested by the military police which handed him over to Kober prison where his fellows (co-accused) are held after being sentenced to death penalty. However, their case is in the process of appealing.

Case Background:
On 2nd September 2016, Public Defense Force (PDF) soldiers attacked Al-Sanadra village of Al-Abbasiya locality in South Kordufan state. They came with more than twenty motorcycles accompanied by two land-cruiser vehicles. As a result of the attack, nine (9) people were killed, about twenty (20) wounded and some houses were looted and burnt down. Also cattle were looted and many residents of Al-Sanadra were displaced. Sixteen defendants were tried before three courts in which two were set free while the rest were sentenced (imprisonment and death sentence).
