Farmer killed by armed people near Abu Jibaiha

                                                                  FARMER KILLED BY ARMED PEOPLE NEAR ABU-JIBAIHA, SUDAN

On 15th September 2021, for unknown reasons a group of people shot and killed Mr. Suliman Saleh Abdelhameed (a farmer) at his farm near Abu-Jibaiha. The murder case was reported at Abu-Jibaiha police but, the police did not act or respond. On 15th September 2021, Mr. Suliman Saleh Abdelhameed together with his son (Saleh) were at the farm in Um-Beneia of Abu-Jibaiha. About twelve armed men (some on motorbike) and others chasing cattle came towards him and asked about his tribe. He replied to them that he is from Hausa and one of them shot (a bullet) on his head and he died instantly. The son (Saleh) who was at a distance hid himself in the bush as he watched the incident. Soon after, the assailants went away and Saleh (the son) ran to his grandfather’s farm and informed him. Mr. Suliman’s father rushed with other farmers and took the dead body to Abu-Jibaiha hospital for postmortem and reported the case at Abu-Jibaiha police office but, no investigation was carried out. Mr. Suliman Saleh Abduelhameed (45 years) was a farmer. His son named Saleh is 14 years old. They are residents of Abu-Jibaiha town. Both his farm and that of his father are at Um-Beneia village which is about 7 km southwest of Abu-Jibaiha town. HUDO Centre is very concerned about the security situation and the safety of civilians in conflict areas and calls upon;
· Sudan government to urgently address the causes of insecurity in the eastern region of South Kordufan State/ Nuba Mountains.
· Sudan government to ensure that there is rule of law.
· Sudan government to hold to account the security committee in South Kordufan State.
· Sudan government to dissolve the government militias and disarm people with unlicensed firearms.
