PRESS STATEMENT
THE STATE OF INSECURITY IN DALAMI, SUDAN
Since November 2021, the insecurity in Dalami area has been on the increase yet
there are security organs present. Farmers have been targeted most and many
lives have been lost. Many murder and attack cases of farmers have been
reported. Racently, within one week in January 2022 the following was reported;
On 13th January 2022, a policeman by names of Mr. Abduelrahman Habib (37 years
old) was shot by unknown armed people that caused his back injury. The
assailants shot at him as he searched (in his social capacity) for lost cattle
together with other three civilians accompanying him near Elseraif village. He
received medical treatment at Dalami hospital. On 14th January 2022, a farmer
known as Mr. Ahmed Osman Kajo (30 years) was shot by unknown gunman at Marjojo
village. He had just come from his farm. The gunshot caused him minor injuries
and had been treated medically at Dalami hospital. On15th January 2022, Mr.
Salah Ismail Baballa (40 years) was shot dead by unknown armed people at his
farm in Tabaldeya village. He was shot on the head while he was harvesting. All
these cases were reported to Dalami police but no investigations were carried
out. Elseraif village is 6 km southeast, Marjojo village is 5 km west and
Tabaldeya is an agricultural area located in the north of Dalami town. Dalami
town is the capital of Dalami locality in South Kordufan State/ Nuba Mountains.
HUDO is very concerned about the security situation and the safety of civilians
in conflict areas and calls upon;
· Police in South Kordufan
State/ Nuba Mountains to immediately investigate these cases.
· The prosecutor in South
Kordufan/ Nuba Mountains to ensure that there is rule of law.
· The security committee in
South Kordufan state to dissolve and disarm militias
· The security committee to
address and ensure that there is safety of civilians in Dalami locality.
