Arrest of Mr. Elqadi by SAF in Damazin

                                                           ARREST OF MR. ABDELMONEIM ELQADI BY SAF IN DAMAZIN, SUDAN

On 4th November 2022, Mr. Abdelmoneim Eisa Elqadi was arrested by SAF from his house in Damazin town. The reason for his arrest is not known. He was held incommunicado and this has raised the fears of could be undergoing torture. On 4 th November 2022, a group of armed soldiers some dressed in Sudan Armed Force (SAF) uniform arrested Mr. Abdelmoneim Eisa Elqadi from his house in Damazin town. They took him to Damazin military base (quarters) where he is detained incommunicado. Nobody (lawyer or family member) has been permitted to visit him. This raised fears that he could be undergoing torture. Up to now, the reason behind his arrest is unknown. HUDO Centre is very concerned about the situation of civilians in conflict States and calls upon;
· SAF in Damazin to disclose where and condition of Mr. Elqadi detention.
· SAF in Damazin to allow family and lawyers to visit him.
· Sudan government to stop SAF from arresting civilians arbitrarily
· The SAF in Damazin to immediately release Mr. Elqadi or to transfer him to the courts of law if there is a case against him.
· The Ministry of Defense to investigate the circumstances around Mr. Elqadi’s arrest by SAF in Damazin and to make the findings public. HUDO Centre

Damazin is the capital city of Blue Nile State. Mr. Abdelmoneim Eisa Elqadi is about 60 years old and he is from Funj tribe; he is a resident of Elhejraa neighbourhood in the northern part of Damazin town. He was state minister in Blue Nile State and the head/ speaker of the state legislative council within Al-Bashir regime. He is also a retired magistrate. The affected rights: Personal Freedom
