Trader killed in armed robbery near Gardood Nyama

                                    PRESS STATEMENT TRADER KILLED IN ARMED ROBBERY NEAR GARDOOD NYAMA, SUDAN

On 2nd December 2022, Mr. Musa Ali was killed and other passengers robbed by six (6) armed robbers while they were travelling from Gardood Nyama to Elzaafaya. The case was reported by the passengers at Gardood Nyama police but, police did not respond. On 2nd December 2022, Mr. Musa Ali was travelling with other passengers on a commercial vehicle from Gardood Nyama to Elzaafaya village after attending the weekly market. Along the way, the vehicle was obstructed by six (6) armed people putting masks on their faces. They robbed them of their money, smart phones and other valuable items under gun point. Due to the dispute with the armed robbers, they shot him (Mr. Musa Ali) twice in the abdomen and head. Mr. Musa Ali died instantly in front of the other travelers. The dead body was taken back by the passengers to Gardood Nyama where the case was filed at police post. Thereafter, the dead body was taken for burial. Up to date police did not carry any investigations. Mr. Musa Ali (35 years) is a trader (mobile vendor). Gardood Nyama is a border village between South and North Kordufan States. Elzaafaya is a village in South Kordufan State/ Nuba Mountains in a distance of about 35 km southwest of Gardood Nyama HUDOCentre is very concerned about the security situation and the safety of civilians in conflict areas and calls upon;
· Police in South Kordufan State/ Nuba Mountains to execute their duties responsibly and to immediately investigate this case.
· The prosecutor in South Kordufan/ Nuba Mountains to ensure that there is rule of law.
· The security committee in South Kordufan state to dissolve and disarm militias and ensure the safety of civilians.
