SAF SOLDIER SHOT A CIVILIAN AT HIS SHOP NEAR ABU-KERSHOLA, SUDAN
On 10th March 2023, SAF soldier shot and injured Mr. Hussein Abdelrahman
Al-Zaki at his shop
in Al-Zalataya village. SAF soldier accused the victim that he was playing
SPLA-N song. The
case was reported at Abu-Kershola police but no action was taken by police.
On 10th March 2023, a group of armed Sudan Armed Force (SAF) soldiers
patrolling with about ten
(10) vehicles arrived at Al-Karnak market in Al-Zalataya village. They briefly
stopped at the shop of Mr.
Hussein Abdelrahman Al-Zaki who was listening/ playing music (songs) on his
personal device. The
soldiers ordered him to stop playing a particular song reasoning that it
belongs to Sudan People
Liberation Army – North (SPLA-N). Mr. Hussein tried to engage them in a
conversation but, one of the
soldiers suddenly shot and fractured his leg. The soldiers thereafter drove
away.
The victim (Hussein) was taken by the family and community members to
Abu-Kershola police where
the case was reported. They later took him to El-Obeid for medical treatment.
However, since then no
action was taken by police.
Mr. Hussein Abdelrahman Al-Zaki (40 years old) a trader at Alkrnak market in
Al-Zalataya village. The
village is located in Abu-Kershola locality of South Kordufan State, it is
about six (6) km southeast
Abu-Kershola town (the capital of the locality).
HUDO Centre is deeply concerned about the security situation and the
safety of civilians in conflict
areas and recommends that:
§
The Police in South Kordofan State /Nuba Mountains should carry out their
duties responsibly
and quickly investigate this case.
§
The Chief Public Prosecutor in South Kordofan State / Nuba Mountains to ensure
that there is
rule of law.
§ The
commandant of SAF in South Kordufan State to investigate in this case.
