No.: H.K/PS/02/023
8th February 2023

                                                                                    PRESS STATEMENT
THE STATE OF INSECURITY IN KADOGLI TOWN, SUDAN
The security situation in Kadogli deteriorated further since January 2023. Many people have
been killed and others got injured yet police and other security agencies have not intervened to
stop the killings or apprehend the perpetrators. But, the security is actively imposing
emergency laws.
Since January 2023, the security situation in Kadogli Town deteriorated further as indicated in some of
the incidents below:
On 18th January 2023 around 07:00 PM (Sudan Local time), Mr. Mohammed Teeya (70 years and
community leader/ Nuba) was shot and extremely injured while at his home by unknown person. The
victim’s family and neighbours rushed (took) him to Kadogli military hospital. The victim was later
transferred (on 1st February 2023) to Khartoum for further medical treatment.
On 23rd January 2023, two busses from Khartoum to Souq Elfoul with passengers arrived Kadogli at
night and they camped at Kadogli nursery (known as travel rest station) in order to resume their travel
the following morning. At about 03:00 AM, unknown armed person shot at them (buses’ passengers)
while they were sleeping. As a result, four people died and other four were injured (all of them from
Nuba tribes).
The following are the names of people who were killed during this attack; Mr. Ibrahim Kandar Gholfan
(48 years), Mr. Ismail Osman Ismail (33 years), Mr. Peter Ntery Almac Angalo (38 years) and Mr. Ayoub
Ibrahim Kuku (45 years). The following are the names of the injured people; Mr. Metias Murgus Jadoul
(27 years), Mr. Zakaria Butrus Tandalti (32 years), Mr. Mujahid Hassan Suliman (19 years) and Mr.
Fadelalla Elharba Angalo (45 years). The police and the general public helped to transport both the
injured and dead bodies to Kadogli hospital where a postmortem was done. The dead bodies were
handed over to the relatives for burial. Two of the injured received medical treatment and they were
discharged while the other two are still undergoing treatment.
All cases were reported to police but there was no serious investigation conducted in order to
apprehend the perpetrators. Instead of apprehending the culprits, on 25th January 2023 the state
government imposed the state of emergency in Kadogli town for one month.

A lawyer from Kadogli talked to HUDO Centre and said that; the failure of the security organs to
investigate raised fear among residents of Kadogli. That the same cases could be repeated since
militias and armed people are present in town.
Kadogli is the capital of South Kordufan State/ Nuba Mountains. Souq Elfoul is a market located on the
territory of Sudan peoples’ liberation Army – North (SPLA-N), the market is also attended by people
from the government territories.

HUDO Centre is very concerned about the security situation and the safety of civilians in conflict areas
and calls upon;
· Police in South Kordufan State/ Nuba Mountains to execute their duties responsibly and to
immediately investigate this case.
· The prosecutor in South Kordufan State/ Nuba Mountains to ensure that there is rule of law.
· The security committee in South Kordufan State/ Nuba Mountains to dissolve and disarm militias
and ensure the safety of civilians.
