Between 11th and 15th February 2024, RSF violently attacked five (5) villages in Nuba Mountains. As a result, more than seventy (70) people died, houses were burnt and property was looted. No action was taken by authorities in protecting the civilians.

On 11th, 12th and 13th February 2024, armed group dressed in Rapid Support Force (RSF) uniform and n its vehicles attacked Wataa, Tengil and Gardood Al-Dakir villages in Habila locality. They brutally killed about thirty-three (33) people (the youth), abducted thirty (30) among them females, looted the villages and burnt down houses and property.

On 15th February 2024, another (different) armed group in RSF uniform with vehicles attacked Sidrah and Kimla village of Eldaer Mountain. During this attack, forty-six (46) people were killed and the villages were burnt.

A community leader in Nuba Mountains commented to HUDO Centre that; “these attacks are ethnically motivated and these villages are known to be occupied by Nuba tribes. The videos circulated by the perpetrators themselves expressed the words of hatred towards the Nuba ethnicity”.

The location of Wataa, Tengil and Gardoud Al-Dakir villages is about 15 km south and south west Habila town of Habila locality in South Kordufan State/ Nuba Mountains. These villages are particularly inhabited by Ensho/ Gholfan tribe of Nuba. The location of Sidra and Kemla villages is about 40 km north Abu-Kershola town, its part of Nuba Mountains however within North Kordufan State and they are inhabited by Dubab/ Amma tribe of Nuba.

HUDO Centre is concerned about the safety of civilians in Sudan during this difficult period of fighting between SAF and RSF and calls for the following:

 The Sudanese Armed Forces in South Kordufan State/ Nuba Mountains to implement security measures in protecting the civilians.

 The prosecutor in South Kordufan State/ Nuba Mountains to ensure that there is rule of law.

 RSF should immediately and unconditionally release any abducted persons.

 The two warring parties (SAF and RSF) to respect the constitutional rights of civilians
