                                                                      URGENT APPEAL
                                     ARREST OPERATIONS BY MILITARY INTELLIGENCE IN ROSERIES, SUDAN

   On 7th August 2024, the Sudan Armed Force’s (SAF) military Intelligence carried out an arrest operation in Roseries. They (MI) were targeting the youth without giving an explanation. Nobody knows where the arrested youth were detained and this caused fear that they could be undergoing torture.

   On 7th August 2024, the Military Intelligence of Sudan Armed Force (SAF) in Roseries carried out an arrest operation targeting the youth. They (SAF/MI) were arresting the youth from their homes without giving an explanation (reason for the arrest). The arrested youth were taken to unknown place which raised fear that, they could be undergoing torture.

   HUDO Centre managed to confirm only three (3) names among those who were arrested as indicated below;

1. Mr. Mohammed Elmubarak, 36 years old. He is a government employee at the Ministry of media and culture in Blue Nile State.

2. Mr. Mr. Muzamil Mustafa, 38 years old. He is a lawyer.

3. Mr. Ahmed Alnadeef, 25 years old. He is a university student.

   An activist from Blue Nile informed HUDO Centre that, the detained (arrested) youth were more than fifty (50) persons. That, the arrests have been going on for the last two weeks.

    HUDO Centre is concerned about the safety of civilians in Sudan during this difficult period of fighting between SAF and RSF and calls for the following:

 The Sudan Armed Force in Blue Nile State to immediately and unconditionally release the three (3) mentioned detainees and any other civilians that could be under their custody or take them to the courts of law.

 The security committee in Blue Nile State to investigate the circumstances behind this arrest campaign and make the findings public.

 The Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) to stop the arrest of civilians.

More information:

   Roseries is the second town in the Blue Nile State and it neighbours Damazin (the state’s capital). Since the war broke out between Sudan Armed Force (SAF) and Rapid Support Force (RSF) and particularly after one of the community leaders in Blue Nile (Mac Abu Shotal) joined the RSF, the Blue Nile government placed many stringent measures on the youth (like travel restrictions). They also started to arrest the youth all over the state suspecting them to be having an alliance with RSF. The arrest operations (campaign) significantly increased within the last month due to RSF attack to Sinar State (the neighbouring state to Blue Nile). However, in most cases there is no evidence against the arrested youth and no one has been presented before courts of law.
