MOHAMMED AND CONFISCATED HIS MOTORBIKE IN EL-OBAID, SUDAN</b></h6> <p>  <b>On 29th July 2024, General Intelligence Service (GIS) arrested Mr. Mohamed Osman Al-Bashir from his home in El-Obeid and took him to unknown place. Also confiscated his motorbike. They (GIS) accused him to be a collaborator of Rapid Support Forces (RSF). His family members don’t know his whereabouts and they are worried for his life.</b></p> <p>   On 29th July 2024, more than twenty (20) armed soldiers from General Intelligence Service came with three (3) military vehicles and arrested Mr. Mohammed Osman Al-Bashir from his house in Al-Saliheen neighborhood of El-Obeid town. They also confiscated his motorbike and they took him to unknown place. They accused Mr. Mohammed of collaborating with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). This was according to their words while arresting him.</p> <p>The family members of Mr. Mohammed do not know where he is detained, which raised fears that his life could be at risk.</p> <p>  <b> HUDO Centre</b> is concerned about the safety of civilians in Sudan during this difficult period of fighting between SAF and RSF and calls for the following:</p> <p> The General Intelligence Service (GIS) in El-Obeid to immediately and unconditionally release Mr. Mohammed Osman Al-Bashir and any other civilians that could be under their detention or take them to the courts of law.</p> <p> The security committee in North Kordufan State to investigate the circumstances behind Mr. Mohammed’s arrest and make the findings public.</p> <p> The General Intelligence Service to stop the arrest of civilians.</p> <p> Sudan government to revoke the recent amendment that gives GIS the power of arrest.</p> <p>   <b>More information:</b></p> <p>Mr. Mohamed Osman Al-Bashir (36 years old) is married and a father of two children. He was a former policeman and now working as a trader. Originally, he is from South Kordufan State/ Nuba Mountains and lives in Al-Saliheen neighborhood in El-Obeid city. El-Obeid is the capital city of North Kordofan State.</p> <p>   On 10th March 2024, the Sudan government in Port-Sudan made amendments of the GIS Act that gives the GIS member and their allies the impunity, power of arrest and inspection which was challenged by the civil society organization. Interestingly, these powers were revoked sometime back by the transitional government.</p> <p>   <b>The violated rights:</b> Personal freedom</p> <p> Article 46 of the Constitutional Document 2019.</p> <p> Article 6 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights.</p> <p> Article 9 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.</p>
