MURDER OF THREE FARMERS BY RSF IN KADOGLI SUDAN

<p>No. H.K/UA/08/020<br> 8th June 2020 <br> <br>                                                   URGENT APPEAL MURDER OF THREE FARMERS BY RSF IN KADOGLI, SUDAN <br> On 5 th June 2020, three (3) farmers were shot dead by RSF soldiers after torturing them at their farms in Kadogli. A case was reported at Kadogli police but there was no significant response/reaction yet the survivors recognized some of the attackers and know their names. On 5 thJune 2020, six (6) farmers in Murta of Kadogli were preparing their land for cultivation when they were attacked by Rapid Support Force (RSF) soldiers. Some of the Rapid Support Force (RSF) soldiers came on a vehicle with RSF number plate and other four came on camels. The six farmers ran away but, the attackers/RSF shot one of them (Mr. Michael Khamees) on his head and he died immediately. Then they pursued the other five farmers and caught two of them (Mr. Musa Yousif and Mr. Osman Elamein Kuku). They tied them with ropes, tortured and shot them dead. The three surviving farmers ran up to the town and reported to police. Later, the dead bodies were taken to Kadogli hospital by their relatives together with the community members and buried after. One of the survivors informed HUDO Centre that, he recognized three of the attackers and he knows them by name, that he mentioned their names in his testimony to police but up to date, not a single perpetrator has been arrested or interrogated. HUDO is very concerned about the situation and lives of civilians in conflict areas and calls upon; <br> · Sudan government at state and central level to urgently investigate the state of insecurity in South Kordufan/ Nuba Mountains and to solve it urgently. <br> · Sudan government to ensure that police executes their duties responsibly and observe the rule of law. · Sudan government to ensure the protection and safety of people in conflict areas. <br> · Sudan government to dissolve and disarm of PDF/ RSF. <br> · Sudan government to respect its international obligations towards their citizens. HUDO Centre More information Mr. Michael Khamees (33 years old), Mr. Musa Yousif (37 years old) and Mr. Osman Elamein Kuku (49 years old) were farmers. They were Internal Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Umdurdu village (about 40 km east Kadogli) and belonged to Tira tribe/ Nuba. The victims’ farms (crime scene) is two (2) km from Murta neighbourhood of Kadogli. Kadogli is the capital town in Nuba Mountains/ South Kordufan State. <br> · In Nuba Mountains, members/soldiers of Public Defense Force (PDF) were mainly recruited from the Arab ethnic group by the former regime as a governmental militia. <br> · Currently, during this transitional government the PDF soldiers has been accommodated in RSF and this deepened the social tensions and negatively impacted people of Nuba Mountains. However there is a new order has taken place in the last two days in legalizing the PDF. <br> · Recently in last month (May), there was a confrontation in Kadogli between the PDF/RSF and other military group which led to loss of many lives. The confrontations pushed the Sovereign Council to send a delegation headed by General/ Kabashi to visit the state and come up with a number of actions/ measures and reconciliation agreement. This has not proved to work or to be respected yet.
