ARREST OF MR. ELSAFI ELDEGAIN BY SAF IN ALERI GHAREIB SUDAN

ELSAFI ELDEGAIN BY SAF IN ALERI GHAREIB, SUDAN <br />On 11th April 2020, Mr. Elsafi Eldegain was arrested by SAF soldiers from Aleri Ghareib town and the following day, he was taken to Talodi town. No reason was given for his arrest and he is likely to be under torture. On the night of 11thApril 2020 around 08:30 PM, eight (8) armed soldiers of Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) came on land cruiser vehicle to Mr. Elsafi’s house in Aleri Ghareib town and arrested him without giving a reason. They took him to their base in the town where he spent the night. The following day (12th April 2020), Mr. Elsafi was transferred to Talodi military base (where he is still confined). He has been denied access to his visitors, family and lawyers, this raises the fear that he could be undergoing torture. A reliable source informed HUDO that, the reason for Mr. Elsafi’s arrest was related to his past political history. HUDO is very concerned about Mr. Elsafi arrest and calls upon; <br />· Sudan government to immediately disclose the cause of Mr. Elsafi Eldegain’s arrest and to allow his family and lawyer visit. <br />· Sudan government to unconditionally release or send him to courts of law. <br />· Sudan government to end the state of emergency which enables SAF and its militias to carry out arrests at will. <br />· Sudan government to stop any kind of discriminative acts towards the citizens from conflict areas. <br />· Sudan government to respect its international obligations towards their citizens. Mr. Elsafi Eldegain is a 42 year old farmer and a resident of Aleri Ghareib.
