<p> <b> No.: H.K/PS/13/024 Date: 3rd August 2024</b></p> <h4> UPDATE ON</h4> <h5> ETHIOPIAN AUTHORITY ARREST OF A SUDANESE ACTIVIST IN ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA</h5> <p> </p> <p> On 29th July 2024, the Ethiopian police released on bail the Sudanese activist Mr. Haitham Ali (Husham Wad Galiba) from their detention in Addis Ababa. They did not give a clear reason for the arrest. They mentioned that an individual (litigant) had complaint against him. However, there was no case filed.</p> <p>On 28th July 2024 around 5:00 PM (GMT), Mr. Haitham Ali Mohamed (known by name Husham wad Galiba) was arrested from his house in Addis Ababa by six people who came with a seven-seater white car. Out of the six (6) people who conducted the arrest, four (4) were from Ethiopian Federal Security (as indicated on their Identity Cards) and the other two (2) were Sudanese (putting on face masks) from Sudan embassy in Addis Ababa (according to their word of mouth, that’s how they introduced themselves). Mr. Haitham was taken to the Federal First Instance Court, Ledta branch in Addis Ababa.</p> <p>On 29th July 2024, Mr. Haitham was released on bail that the pledge was signed by one of the Sudanese activists who resides in Addis Ababa/ Ethiopia while his phone and personal belongings (wallet) were seized.</p> <p>On 30th July 2024, Mr. Haitham was accompanied by his lawyer as he received back his phone and other belongings from the police. The Ethiopian police gave them a verbal response (statement) that, it was a scandal case which was earlier filed (reported) by a Sudanese businessman named Mr. Mohammed Osman. However, the lawyer found that there is no genuine case that was filed in form of a statement yet Mr. Haitham was detained the whole night of 29th July 2024. Mr. Haitham returned to his family but the whole family remained worried about their security.</p> <p> <b> HUDO Centre</b> was reliably informed that, Sudan government is involved and interested in this case of Mr.Haitham.</p> <p> <b>Note: </b>Mr. Mohammed Osman is a businessman connected to the suspicious and corrupt military (SAF) investments (according to the articles) that Mr. Haitham had disclosed through a series of articles under title of ‘‘the devil’’.
