Armed robbery incident near Abu Jibaiha

<p><b>HUDO Centre No. H.K/PS/44/021 <br> 25th July 2021 <br>                                                                                                            PRESS STATEMENT<br>                                                                        ARMED ROBBERY INCIDENT NEAR ABU-JIBAIHA, SUDAN</b> <br> On 13th July 2021, armed robbers killed and injured three passengers as well as robbed other passengers while they were traveling from Abu-Jibaiha to Elfaid Um-Abdalla. Two of the robbers were caught by police but their fellow gang members shot and injured one policeman. On 13th July 2021, armed robbers shot at a commercial vehicle traveling with about fourteen passengers from Abu-Jibaiha to Elfaid Um-Abdalla. As a result, one passenger Mr. Mukhtar Mohammed Mukhtar (32 years old) died and other two Mr. Abduelraheem Abulbashar and Mr. Yagoub Eltoum were injured. The robbers also stole passengers’ valuable items and smart phones. On 17th July 2021, a police team from Abu-Jibaiha managed to arrest two of the suspects who kept on using the victims’ phone. On their way back, the caught robbers’ fellows (as expressed by policemen) shot bullets at the police team/ vehicle that caused seriously injuries of one policeman (Mr. Mubarak Mohammed Ibrahim, 40 years old). The dead body was buried at Abu-Jibaiha and the injured people have received medical aid at Abu<!--[if !supportFootnotes]-->[1]<!--[endif]-->Jibaiha hospital and there after some have transferred to Elobeid hospital for further treatment. Abu-Jibaiha is a town in the eastern region of Nuba Mountains/ South Kordufan State HUDO is very concerned about the situation of civilians in conflict areas and calls upon; <br> · Sudan government to urgently investigate and address the state of insecurity in South Kordufan State/ Nuba Mountains. <br> · Sudan government to support South Kordufan State police by the needed tools in executing their duties in observing the rule of law. <br> · Sudan government to ensure the safety of people in conflict areas. <br> · Sudan government to dissolve and disarm the government militias and withdraw unlicensed weapons from the public. <br> <br> End: For more information please write to hudo2009@gmail.com<o:p></o:p></p>
