The case was reported to Umbrembeta police but no action was taken. On 17th June 2021, Mr. Tariq Saeed Mohammed was driving his mini-truck loaded with goods. He was traveling from El Rahad town to Umbrembeta town when armed people obstructed him (10 km) before reaching Umbrembeta. The armed people were six (6) men dressed in Popular Defense Force (PDF) uniform and they were riding/ using camels. The assailants robbed from him ten (10) sacks of sugar, eight (8) containers of cooking oil, smart phone and unspecified amount of money from him. An activist from Umbrembeta informed HUDO Centre that, drivers now fear using this road because of this incident and many others of shooting at passenger vehicles within the current days. We believe that it’s the same group of assailants causing insecurity while no action was taken by the security organs. Mr. Tariq Saeed Mohammed (trader and driver) is about 56 years old. El Rahad is a town in North Kordufan State. Umbrembeta is a town in Abu-Kershola locality of Nuba Mountains/ South Kordufan State in a distance of 40 km south Abu-Kershola town. HUDO is very concerned about the situation of civilians in conflict areas and calls upon;
· Sudan government to urgently investigate and address the state of insecurity in South Kordufan/ Nuba Mountains.
· Sudan government to ensure that police executes their duties responsibly by observing the rule of law. · Sudan government to ensure the safety of people in conflict areas.
· Sudan government to dissolve and disarm the government militias and withdraw unlicensed weapons from the public.

End: For more information please write to hudo2009@gmail.com
