FARMER SHOT AND INJURED IN AMBEIR, SUDAN
<p> <b> No.: H.K/PS/37/023 Date: 4th December 2023</b></p><p><b><br></b></p><h5> <b>PRESS STATEMENT</b></h5><h6> FARMER SHOT AND INJURED IN AMBEIR, SUDAN</h6><p><br></p><p> <b> On 20th October 2023, Mr. Abduelraheem Edriss (farmer) was shot and injured by a cattle keeper. T</b><b style="font-style: inherit; background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5); color: var(--ast-global-color-3);">he aggressor’s cattle were caught grazing at Edriss’s farm in Ambeir. This case was reported a</b><b style="font-style: inherit; background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5); color: var(--ast-global-color-3);">nd filed against the cattle keeper but police didn’t make any efforts to arrest him.</b></p><p> On 20th October 2023, while Mr. Abduelraheem Abdalla Edriss together with other farmers were harvesting at their farms/ gardens in Ambeir, cattle entered and grazed at his farm. Mr. Abduelraheem with six (6) other farmers drove the cattle out of their garden towards the Sudan Armed Force (SAF) garrison in town where the uncontrolled and abandoned cattle are assembled (the place is named Zareeba). While on the way, the cattle owner (Mr. Berair Abduelmanan) obstructed them and shot at them and injured Mr. Abduelraheem on the left leg. However, the other farmers managed to run with the cattle and handed them to the SAF Zareeba. Mr. Abduelraheem was rescued by his fellow farmers and family and taken to Rashad hospital where he received medical treatment. The case was filed against the perpetrator but the police did not even attempt to arrest him. The cows were also given to the assailant’s relative without any conditions.</p><p>Mr. Abduelraheem Abdalla Edriss (65 years old) is a farmer from Tagoei tribe/ Nuba. Ambeir is small town in Abu-Kershola locality of South Kordufan State/ Nuba Mountains. Rashad is in Rashad locality and the nearest town with reasonable medical services and its about 60 km from Ambeir. Zareeba is an assembling point where uncontrolled or abandoned cows are collected and it’s under the observation of SAF and police. They hold the animals till the owner appears to get them back after paying a fine.</p><p><b>HUDO Centre </b>is concerned about the safety of civilians in Sudan during this difficult period of fighting etween SAF and RSF and calls for the following:</p><p> Police in South Kordofan State Nuba Mountains to execute their duties responsibly and to investigate this case immediately.</p><p> The prosecutor in South Kordofan StateNuba Mountains to ensure the rule of law.</p><p> The security committee in South Kordufan State/ Nuba Mountain to respond immediately to the ongoing insecurity incidents.</p><p>E<b>nd:</b> For more information, please write to: hudo2009@gmail.com</p>
