<p><b>No.: H.K/PS/02/023 <br> 8th February 2023</b><br> <b>                                                                                    PRESS STATEMENT</b><br> <b>                                                    THE STATE OF INSECURITY IN KADOGLI TOWN, SUDAN</b><br> The security situation in Kadogli deteriorated further since January 2023. Many people have<br> been killed and others got injured yet police and other security agencies have not intervened to<br> stop the killings or apprehend the perpetrators. But, the security is actively imposing<br> emergency laws.<br> Since January 2023, the security situation in Kadogli Town deteriorated further as indicated in some of<br> the incidents below:<br> On 18th January 2023 around 07:00 PM (Sudan Local time), Mr. Mohammed Teeya (70 years and<br> community leader/ Nuba) was shot and extremely injured while at his home by unknown person. The<br> victim’s family and neighbours rushed (took) him to Kadogli military hospital. The victim was later<br> transferred (on 1st February 2023) to Khartoum for further medical treatment.<br> On 23rd January 2023, two busses from Khartoum to Souq Elfoul with passengers arrived Kadogli at<br> night and they camped at Kadogli nursery (known as travel rest station) in order to resume their travel<br> the following morning. At about 03:00 AM, unknown armed person shot at them (buses’ passengers)<br> while they were sleeping. As a result, four people died and other four were injured (all of them from<br> Nuba tribes).<br> The following are the names of people who were killed during this attack; Mr. Ibrahim Kandar Gholfan<br> (48 years), Mr. Ismail Osman Ismail (33 years), Mr. Peter Ntery Almac Angalo (38 years) and Mr. Ayoub<br> Ibrahim Kuku (45 years). The following are the names of the injured people; Mr. Metias Murgus Jadoul<br> (27 years), Mr. Zakaria Butrus Tandalti (32 years), Mr. Mujahid Hassan Suliman (19 years) and Mr.<br> Fadelalla Elharba Angalo (45 years). The police and the general public helped to transport both the<br> injured and dead bodies to Kadogli hospital where a postmortem was done. The dead bodies were<br> handed over to the relatives for burial. Two of the injured received medical treatment and they were<br> discharged while the other two are still undergoing treatment.<br> All cases were reported to police but there was no serious investigation conducted in order to<br> apprehend the perpetrators. Instead of apprehending the culprits, on 25th January 2023 the state<br> government imposed the state of emergency in Kadogli town for one month.<br> <br> A lawyer from Kadogli talked to HUDO Centre and said that; <i>the failure of the security organs to</i><br> <i>investigate raised fear among residents of Kadogli. That the same cases could be repeated since</i><br> <i>militias and armed people are present in town.</i><br> Kadogli is the capital of South Kordufan State/ Nuba Mountains. Souq Elfoul is a market located on the<br> territory of Sudan peoples’ liberation Army – North (SPLA-N), the market is also attended by people<br> from the government territories.<br> <br> <b>HUDO Centre </b>is very concerned about the security situation and the safety of civilians in conflict areas<br> and calls upon;<br> · Police in South Kordufan State/ Nuba Mountains to execute their duties responsibly and to<br> immediately investigate this case.<br> · The prosecutor in South Kordufan State/ Nuba Mountains to ensure that there is rule of law.<br> · The security committee in South Kordufan State/ Nuba Mountains to dissolve and disarm militias<br> and ensure the safety of civilians.<br> <br> <b>End:</b><br> For more information please write to: hudo2009@gmail.com<o:p></o:p></p>
