SAF SOLDIER SHOT A CIVILIAN AT HIS SHOP NEAR ABU-KERSHOLA, SUDAN

<p></p> <p><b>HUDO Centre</b><br> <b>No.: H.K/PS/10/023 Date: 27</b><b>th </b><b>March 2023<br> </b><br> <b>                                                               PRESS STATEMENT</b><br>                                                                                    (For immediate release)<br> <b>SAF SOLDIER SHOT A CIVILIAN AT HIS SHOP NEAR ABU-KERSHOLA, SUDAN</b><br> <b>On 10</b><b>th </b><b>March 2023, SAF soldier shot and injured Mr. Hussein Abdelrahman Al-Zaki at his shop</b><br> <b>in Al-Zalataya village. SAF soldier accused the victim that he was playing SPLA-N song. The</b><br> <b>case was reported at Abu-Kershola police but no action was taken by police.</b><br> On 10th March 2023, a group of armed Sudan Armed Force (SAF) soldiers patrolling with about ten<br> (10) vehicles arrived at Al-Karnak market in Al-Zalataya village. They briefly stopped at the shop of Mr.<br> Hussein Abdelrahman Al-Zaki who was listening/ playing music (songs) on his personal device. The<br> soldiers ordered him to stop playing a particular song reasoning that it belongs to Sudan People<br> Liberation Army – North (SPLA-N). Mr. Hussein tried to engage them in a conversation but, one of the<br> soldiers suddenly shot and fractured his leg. The soldiers thereafter drove away.<br> The victim (Hussein) was taken by the family and community members to Abu-Kershola police where<br> the case was reported. They later took him to El-Obeid for medical treatment. However, since then no<br> action was taken by police.<br> Mr. Hussein Abdelrahman Al-Zaki (40 years old) a trader at Alkrnak market in Al-Zalataya village. The<br> village is located in Abu-Kershola locality of South Kordufan State, it is about six (6) km southeast<br> Abu-Kershola town (the capital of the locality).<br> <b>HUDO Centre </b>is deeply concerned about the security situation and the safety of civilians in conflict<br> areas and recommends that:<br> § The Police in South Kordofan State /Nuba Mountains should carry out their duties responsibly<br> and quickly investigate this case.<br> § The Chief Public Prosecutor in South Kordofan State / Nuba Mountains to ensure that there is<br> rule of law.<br> § The commandant of SAF in South Kordufan State to investigate in this case.<br> <b>End:</b><br> For more information, please write to: hudo2009@gmail.com<o:p></o:p></p>
