Passengers robbed near Umbrembeta
<p><b>HUDO Centre No.: H.K/PS/35/022 <br> 24th June 2022<br> PRESS STATEMENT <br> PASSENGERS ROBBED BY ARMED PEOPLE NEAR UMBREMBETA, SUDAN</b> <br> On 1st June 2022, six armed men with masks robbed passengers on a commercial vehicle near Umbrembeta. The case was reported by the victims to Umbrembeta police but, police did not respond. On 1st June 2022, a commercial vehicle driven by Mr. Yassir Jumma (25 years) was carrying passengers from El-Rahad to Umbrembeta. They were obstructed by six armed men covering their faces with masks at a point near Redeina village (about 13 km north Umbrembeta). They assaulted the passengers (beating them with sticks) and robbed them of their smart phones and money at gunpoint. Thereafter, the robbers allowed the victims to continue with their journey. On arrival to Umbrembeta, the driver with passengers went right away to the police office and reported the incident. But, police did not carry out the needed procedures and investigations. Umbrembeta is a town in Abu-Kershola locality of South Kordufan State/ Nuba Mountains. El-Rahad is the nearest town in North Kordufan State and it’s about 100 km north of Umbrembeta.
