SAF soldiers killed civilian at Elhegairat

<p><b>HUDO Centre No.: H.K/PS/27/022 <br />30th April 2022 <br />                                                                                                             PRESS STATEMENT <br />                                                            SAF SOLDIERS KILLED AND ROBBED CIVILIAN AT ELHEGAIRAT, SUDAN</b> <br />On 13th April 2022, SAF soldiers attacked Elhegairat goldmine shot at people and killed the the mosque Emam and robbed him of his smart phone and money. The incident was reported by the community members to Kadogli police butno action was taken. As a result, community members rioted and obstructed the main road (highway) connecting to Kadogli. On 13th April 2022 at around 11:00 AM (Sudan time), a group of Sudan Armed Force (SAF) soldiers attacked people working at Elhegairat gold mine and shot bullets at them. As a result, Mr. Abduelraheem Eissa Daoud was killed by three bullets at his chest. After killing him, they (SAF soldiers) took away his smart phone and the available money from his pocket and went away. The case was reported by the victims of this attack to police at Kadogli but no action was taken by police. Because of this, community members of Elhegairat protested and obstructed the main road which connects Kadogli town to other parts of Sudan. The road was later opened after military high rank visited the area and promised to arrest the perpetrators. But to date, no one has been arrested. Mr. Abduelraheem Eissa Daoud (60 years old), was the Emam (religious leader) of Elhegairat mosque. Elhegairat goldmine is within Elhegairat village and about 7 km West of Kadogli town/ the capital of South Kordufan State/ Nuba Mountains. HUDO is very concerned about the security situation and the safety of civilians in conflict areas and calls upon; <br />· Police and SAF in South Kordufan State/ Nuba Mountains to immediately investigate this case. <br />· The prosecutor in South Kordufan/ Nuba Mountains to ensure that there is rule of law. <br />· The security committee in South Kordufan state/ Nuba Mountains to regulate the soldiers, apprehend the perpetrators and ensure the safety of civilians. <br /><br />End: For more information please write to: hudo2009@gmail.com</p>
